Mari and Meg discuss a not so modern retelling, but one that is still very important to the Beauty and the Beast circle: Robin McKinley’s Beauty! This book has more of a backstory for Beauty, it even gives her a proper name! They also discuss the importance of describing food and whether or not monkeys can be legally owned as pets.

I swear at some point I’ll actually make a blog post about books and yarn but for now, please go enjoy Mari and I talking about Beauty!

Haven’t listened yet, but I’m actually one of the few who prefer McKinley’s other Beauty and the Beast retelling, Rose Daughter.

Well, it’s an unpopular opinion- I know most fans prefer Beauty. But I felt like Rose Daughter brought something a little more original to the story.

Is it a different retelling of the same tale? Or something closely along the lines of the Snow White, Rose Red story? I was never really sure.

It’s very much Beauty and the Beast. But she takes a different approach to the story than she did in Beauty.
